Interests and Hobbies

Several students interviewed me recently about my interests, past and present. Here is an excerpt of what I told them.

In college I played rugby and ultimate frisbee.  My senior year at Carleton my ultimate team went to NCAA nationals for the sport - a total kick.  People who want to know more about ultimate can check out the Ultimate Players Association at www.upa.org

In rubgy, I played lock, sometimes wing, and was the designated driver for my team - no beer for me!  I had a bumper sticker on my car that said "Give Blood-Play Rugby".

More recently, I've become a big fan of cross-country skiing.  Unfortunately I don't get much chance to do that here!  (best place to ski, see:   www.skimwp.org )

Since coming to Greencastle I've focused on family-oriented interests: walks in the Nature Park and at Fern Cliff, Putnam County Youth Soccer games, Kindermusik, playing Junior Monopoly and Skipbo.

If anyone is interested in card games, you should definitely give Pinochle a try.  I am learning to knit, and have my grandmother's old needles and pattern books.  I love reading fiction, mysteries mostly, but am also a fan of some non-fiction (Barbara Kingsolver, John McPhee, Tom Friedman).
