SUMMARY OF THE FIRST WEEK'S RESPONSIBILITIES in this course:

In order to get the semester underway smoothly, there are some logistics that need to be undertaken and completed in a timely way. During the first week you need to:
  1. Buy the following required materials for the course:
    1. a copy of the course textbook
    2. optionally, a copy of the textbook study guide.
    3. required supplementary reading or other materials: if any are designated for this course this semester.
    4. optionally, a personal planning calendar: for noting the dates of important activities and events during the semester. This can be very valuable for avoiding conflicts and slips of memory.
  2. Look over the contents of the Course Information and the Course Schedule (Choose the correct hypertext links to these materials below. Note that these are large, heavily formatted files, so they will require 30s or so to load). Then make a decision about those portions for which you want to make a printed "hard" copy. I would recommend that you only print the Course Schedule and consult the Course Information on-line on an as-needed basis.
    1. For Introductory Psychology 100: Course Information, Course Schedule.
    2. For Developmental Psychology 290: Course Information, Course Schedule.
  3. Fill out the on-line Academic Integrity Acknowledgment and Limited Waiver of Personal Confidentiality Form which includes:
    1. Adding a codename of your own choosing to this form. REMEMBER THIS CODENAME. It is your way of identifying your publicly posted grades during the semester.
    2. Choosing a password (I recommend that for simplicity's sake you use the same password as is associated with your VAX ID.
    3. Electronically submitting this completed form with codename affixed by 5:00 p.m., the last day of the first full week of classes. This is the only student responsibility whose neglect will prevent me from getting on with my own work and preparation for the semester and should that situation arise I will feel annoyed and frustrated with the offending student(s). To avoid that situation I will assume that students who don't get this registration done by the deadline requested have decided not to continue with the course and thus can be dropped from the course roll.

      Please note that you must scroll down the page, press the "Submit" button, and then receive a confirming message on your monitor's screen before you can correctly conclude that you have successfully registered your codename!
  4. Register your membership in the WebBoard conferencing site for your course. Please note that this is separate and distinct from the registration process immediately above and thus must be done as a second registration. You will need to register a login name and password. I suggest that you consider using your VAX userid and again your VAX password, respectively, but you may make other choices if you prefer. Don't overlook the fact that in order to submit the information you have filled in and thus complete your registration you must scroll down the registration page until the "SAVE" button is visible and press it. As with the Academic Integrity & Limited Waiver form, I would ask that you complete this registration by 5:00 p.m.of the last day of the first full week of classes since I will be closing the site to futher membership registration at that time. Thanks.

    Here is additional information about how to register your membership on these conferencing boards if you need it; otherwise, (a) choose the correct WebBoard below, and (b) complete your new member registration process.
    1. the Introductory Psychology 100 WebBoard;
    2. the Developmental Psychology 290 WebBoard.

    In the first 2-3 days following your successful registration you should begin to make your way thru the entries in the first several WebBoard conference topics. Start with the Conference topic titled "Welcome!" (paying special attention to the entry that addresses good housekeeping practices) and explore those topics at least up to and including the one titled "For Your General, Broader Education". This will give you the opportunity to gain some navigating experience and to try out the "Mark As Read" feature (but do NOT mark ALL entries as read!). You needn't worry about "breaking" this software, and remember, the "Help" button is there for a purpose--its contents will seem less like gobbledygook the more you use it.
