SPECIAL EVENT FORM

Course name: ___________, Course number: _______, Hour: _____

Raw Score:_____ (to be filled in by instructor)

Name of the Special Event: _______________________________________

Date the Event was Attended/Performed: ____/_____/_____

Instructions: You may earn points by attendance at or participation in selected special events during the semester. These events may include films, special television programs, lectures, public meetings, participation in psychological experiments outside of class, etc. These events will be announced in class beforehand, and in fact I would like your help in identifying interesting things happening on or around campus. It is a good idea not to try to do all of the special events that you want at the very last minute.

For each event, fill out this short form describing your experience and giving a critical analysis of what you did or saw. ANSWERS MUST BE TYPED. You will be graded on writing a concise, clear, and critical appraisal of your experience. These reports will be due in accordance with the due date requirements specified in the course workbook. Your answers will be evaluated on the basis of 1) grammatical/structural adequacy, and 2) the presence of significant content.

Answer the following questions.

  1. (1 point each) Outline the three (3) main points or things you got out of this experience. (Use complete, grammatically correct sentences.) DO NOT engage in simple description of or "plot narration" about the experience--identify aspects of the experience that have significance. If the significance is not likely to be readily obvious to a reader, write enough to make it so.

  1. (2 points) Select a point that you disagree with, or an aspect of the experience that you did not like. State your position and build a case for it. Use evidence and logic. Use the back of this sheet if you need more space.
  2.

  3. (2 points) How does this event relate to our study of psychology (to developmental psychology in particular for those in the developmental course)? (1 additional point) Integrate at least one detailed reference to psychological literature into your answer using correct format (my referencing supplement, APA crib sheet).

  4. Do you consider this to have been a worthwhile experience? In other words, if this event were to occur again, should it be offered as a special event?

  5. (2 points) Reference(s) (my referencing supplement, APA crib sheet):
