Where the general view is espoused that some persons (faculty, students, and others), in the pursuit of their personal standards of excellence, will perform creative, intellectually worthwhile and fulfilling acts without having to have carrots constantly dangled in front of their noses or pats periodically administered to the tops of their heads.

Many of the web pages attached to this home page are intended to provide my students with a readily accessible source of information and ideas for my courses so that we can get right to the task of reducing the paper blizzard and saving a few trees.

How is attempting to describe yourself on a web homepage a bit like doing a painting in the pointillist style?

Here's a couple of my favorite pointillist paintings by Seurat which, if you want, you can peruse as part of your contemplative search for an answer to my riddle (click the icons for larger renditions):
	Un dimanche après-midi à l'Ile de la Grande Jatte (Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte), 1884-86; Art Institute, Chicago.
	La Poudreuse (Young Woman With Powder Puff), 1889-90; London: Courtauld Institute.  This painting seems especially appropriate here, even more so than the more famous one above, since it embodies a certain degree of narcissism and self-absorption--characteristics that seem to my mind inevitably present in the construction of most all personal Web pages. Additionally, there is a more singular focus on one person in this painting as compared to the one above--something that may serve as a strong hint about the answer to my riddle.
